the past whole week was TIRING and FRUITFUL! :)) the rehab dept in nuh was so great! LOL.

monday
i met up with the rest at buona vista mrt to take the shuttle bus to nuh. bridget couldnt come because she was sick, so she missed the first day! awww. haha. we reached nuh a little early and was then sent to settle down. we were separated aft that-yanshan and i were sent to the neuro day ward while huiping and alana were sent to the ortho gym. yanshan and i went up to ward 57 and interacted with the patients there. they all had stroke and were rather helpless. :( after lunch, we switched placed, so yanshan and i followed yijun, our mentor, as she helped patients who had to exercise their legs.

tuesday
we didnt separate today! :) we went to the cardio gym first thing in the morning and saw many senior citizens participating in the gym sessions. we spent only like about 1 hr there before heading to the PAEDs physio! :DDD we were so happy to be at the PAEDs physio! LOL. the kids were all SO cute! the only sad thing was that we didnt really interact with the kids because we didnt want to disturb the physiologist. :( haha, but the time there was fun lah! we went to the sports gym after lunch, and hmmms, it is the most boring among the whole 5 day session we had! heh heh. as in, we were bored and stoning because there wasnt really much we cld do. haha.

wednesday
we went to the speech thrapists today together. i enjoyed today because the mentor was fun! LOL. melisa was crazy and funny! it was also the only day that i got to go into an ICU ward to see how they help such a critically ill patient. we followed issac in the morning before transferring to melisa. we also saw how the xray dept work and it was just enlightening! :DD bridget, who came back today, then did an endoscope. haha. it was COOL. they got a free print too! it was cool seeing how bridget's throat or what most of our throat look like and how the different things in our throat actually function.

thursday
we went to podiatry today. podiatry is about the legs whereby if the ankle/foot has an injury or wound, they will treat it. oh, corns too. it was disgusting seeing the podiatrist taking out the corns from the patients. one patient even bled ALOT. it was rather disgusting. yanshan cldnt take it and went out. heh heh. the only comforting thing is that the patient cldnt feel it because she was diabetic. :) she felt ill after that and it was scary seeing how she almost fainted because her blood glucose level was too low.

friday
the bad thing about today was that we were all splited up! each person followed one mentor! heh. i followed felicia. she's nice! haha. but she was busy. she let me try out the wheelchair by asking me to move from the ortho gym to the ADL kitchen and back. the wheelchair ride was fun but i was slightly uncomfortable because i was afraid i would block the way. she also gave me the stuff that the patients play which was abit childish. but ohwells. haha. the aftnn was fun too! aft learning alot from alicia, yanshan bridget and me went to do the wax thing for our hand. it was downright cool! the only thing is that the wax wouldnt harden like those outside. haha.but it was fun! in the end, yanshan and i were sad to leave! thats why we stayed longer at the hand therapy room.

the 5 days were so enriching! the mentors were really nice. after seeing all the patients and the passion the therapists have for their work, i grew loads in compassion! haha, i dont mind the job of a therapists after seeing their work! the job is really people-centred and it really allows them to meet different kinds of people, something that is so different from a desk job. i was sad to leave the place on friday because we spent 5 days there and it was fun. it was weird lah because we knew that we didnt need to go back there anymore, out routine was cut! heh heh. yay! nuh is such a nice place, but i do hope that i do not need to go in there! haha. there shld be more job shadowing like these, i would definitely sign up again! :DD
